a powerful antioxidant and a 1 ingredient recipe

Sunflower seeds like other types of nuts and seeds are a great source of healthy fat. Most of us were probably raised, or at least remember a time where we aimed to eat everything fat free- from crackers, breads, yogurts, desserts, and even cooking oils! Most food manufacturers replaced the fat in these 'low-fat' products with added sugar to make up for taste, which have led to a whirlwind of health issues for many of us.We now know that healthy fats are an essential part of a balanced diet. Healthy fats are fats that are not highly processed and do not promote inflammation. Good quality fats are essential for hormone regulation, nutrient absorption (think fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E and K), and brain health. Try incorporating some great sources of healthy fats to your diet like these foods:

  • Nuts-cashews, almonds, walnuts etc.

  • Seeds-chia, flax, pumpkin, sunflower etc.

  • Avocado

  • Olives

  • Coconut (full fat milk, flakes, oil)

  • Cold pressed oils (coconut, avocado, olive, nut, seed oils)

Sunflower seeds are very high in Vitamin E, which is a potent antioxidant, and they contain more Vitamin E than most other nuts and seeds which makes these tiny seeds a great snack choice. I personally love adding sunflower seed butter to a green apple for a midday snack or adding it to my energy ball recipe which gives them a great texture and flavor! Give this super simple super-food recipe a try and let me know how you love to eat it!

Sunflower Seed Butter Recipe:

You're probably wondering why you should make this yourself, right? Sure, you could easily buy Sunflower Seed Butter during your next grocery store visit, but once you see how easy and inexpensive this method is you're going to fall in love! This is definitely not another Pinterest recipe to tag and forget. Plus, when you make something so simple at home with just ONE ingredient, you can guarantee there are no added sugars or unwanted preservatives! Just a simple, clean, and delicious recipe to nourish you.

Wishing you health and happiness,
